What inspired you to become a nutritionist?

I suffered from eczema and IBS when I was in high school.  I remember my mum taking me to see a naturopath. She fixed me and it was always in the back of my mind that I might do that as a job one day.

What foods do you recommend taking along Vida Glow's marine collagen for healthy hair, skin, and nails?

The best foods for the health of hair, skin and nails are those that are high in zinc, omega 3 and protein. My top picks are sardines, oysters, sunflower seeds and eggs.

How do you like to detox?

I love to sweat it out in an infrared sauna, hot yoga or going for a short intense run. If our bodies are healthy and we are fueling them well, our body detoxifies itself, every second of everyday through the liver, kidneys, lymphatic’s and skin. Sweating it out just speeds up the elimination process.

What is the one diet tip for people who want to embrace wellness? 

Cut the confusion and eat real wholefoods, without labels. You won’t have to count calories or worry about any added sugars, preservatives etc. 

Your favourite cheat treat is...

Dark chocolate with hazelnuts in it. I also just discovered Health Lab Bliss Balls. Yum!

As a mother, what recommendations would you include for stress management and fitness to bring other mothers closer to optimal health? 

It's a tough time, especially if you have little ones. Jacqui Lewis from the Broad Place has helped me gain so much perspective and really get a handle on the stresses of motherhood. Her book “Mother Mind Cleanse” has been invaluable to me. I read it at least once a month just to remind myself how to be a happier and calmer mother. In the book she talks about having the strength of an elephant and embodying their grace and calmness in everyday life. I imagine this as I’m trying to find strength when I’m trying to get them dressed in the morning, rocking them to sleep at 3am when they are unwell or doing the grocery shopping with them!!!

As for fitness, every small effort counts. A walk, some stretches and the occasional exercise class if you have the luxury. I’ve found a few great places that have a crèche. Carrying all the groceries into the house in one go also counts as exercise! Have an active lifestyle and spend as much time as you can outdoors with your children.
