Cellulite Busting Foods

A constant worry for women around summer season is cellulite. Once we have to bare our bodies and get into our bikini's showing our skin at the beach or pool, we panic. And of course, we look for the best quick fix to help.

Instead of worrying about a quick fix let's look at how to get rid of the dreaded cellulite. The key to this may in fact lie with what food we actually put into our bodies.

Water

Although water is not technically a food, it is shown to be the most simple and effective in reducing the appearance of cellulite. Drinking plenty of water and keeping hydrated is essential for healthy skin, it's also important to flush out toxins from the body which is a major cause of cellulite.

Fruit and Veg

Like water, it is also important to get extra fluid from fruits and vegetable that are rich in water, enzymes and potassium such as cucumbers, spinach and other leafy greens. Fruits which are high in water and low in calories include; melon, grapes, tomatoes and cucumber, making them ideal for weight loss and the improvement of cellulite. Cranberries and other berries may also be beneficial due to their high antioxidant content.

Foods High in Vitamin C

Vitamin C can help to strengthen your skin's connective tissue, which can reduce the appearance of cellulite. Increasing vitamin C intake means adding more vitamin C rich fruits and vegetables such as oranges, lemons, kiwis, broccoli, bell peppers, berries and pineapples into your diet.

Protein

Part of the reason cellulite develops is due to a breakdown in the skin's connective tissue known as collagen. Collagen is the protein in our bodies essential for skin density and structure. Therefore it is important to add lean meat such as chicken, red meat, white fish, beans, greek yoghurt and cottage cheese to your diet to increase your protein intake.

A diet high in protein also helps to build muscle, which can give a more toned appearance to your skin. It can also help you feel full longer which helps you consume less calories overall avoiding weight gain. Studies show wild fish is the best protein for cellulite as it is high in zinc and potassium. Anchovies, cod and salmon contain the highest amount of potassium.

Fats

When we see fats we automatically think this is bad for us but there are some healthy fats which are essential to help combat cellulite. Studies show that foods high in omega 3 and 6 fatty acids such as oily fish, walnuts and sunflower oil, as well as monounsaturated fats including nuts, seeds and avocado can help you lose weight and fight cellulite.

Collagen Supplementation

As the lack and breakdown of collagen is a major cause into why cellulite appears, taking a daily (natural) collagen supplement such as Vida Glow will help to strengthen the collagen fibers under the skin. This will assist in smoothing out the skin and diminishing the appearance of cellulite. Vida Glow marine collagen promotes your body to rebuild and repair the fibres that cause cellulite to appear.
